Recently, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) sponsored a three-week workshop in Classical Design at Gulliver Prep. Anne Finch, Chapter Director of the ICAA, organized and assisted in the workshop, collaborating with Ms. Emily Wilson, Prep Architecture Faculty, to bring in three speakers.

Ms. Wilson’s Architecture 1 and Architecture 2 classes first enjoyed an “Introduction to Classical Urban Planning” by University of Miami Professor, Architect and Urbanist, Teofilo Victoria. Mr. Victoria has an Architecture and Urbanism practice in Miami and is the President of the Board of the ICAA.

Architect and Urbanist, Phillip Rhea, also visited Gulliver to give a lecture titled “Introduction to the Classical Orders.” Mr. Rhea graduated from the University of Notre Dame’s Architecture Program and works with De La Guardia Victoria Architects and Urbanists in Miami, and contributes to the ICAA.

Lastly, Architect and Classicist, David Case, visited Ms. Wilson’s Architecture 1 and 2 classes to present “Introduction to Classical Detailing and Moulding.” Mr. Case has an Architecture practice in Jacksonville and is on the Board of the ICAA.

Presentations like these give students the opportunity to hear from experts in the Architecture community, all the while connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences.
