Gulliver Athletics recognized two outstanding student-athletes on the first National Signing Day of 2018-19, as Emily Cordovi '19 and Olivia Hernandez '19 committed to continuing their swimming careers at the collegiate level.
The pair was honored in a ceremony just days before the Florida 2A Swimming and Diving State Championships. On Saturday, November 17, two-time Miami Herald Coach of the Year Christopher George and the Raiders will travel to Stuart, Florida, where the girls' swimming team will compete for its fourth straight championship and the boys' swimming team will look to win its second state title in three years.
Emily has played a significant role on Gulliver's swim team since her freshman year, leading the Raiders to three of its four state titles. She has earned All-America honors every year spanning five different events, including three times in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and twice in the 400 freestyle, 200 medley, and 200 freestyle relays. Emily has won four individual state titles and six relay state championships, and holds school records in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 200 medley relay. She is a two-time Miami Herald Swimmer of the Year and three-time First Team All-Dade selection.
An Honor Roll student for all four years of high school, Emily also excels in the classroom, maintaining a 3.69 GPA. Emily will pursue a degree in exercise physiology and compete on the Florida State University swim team.
During her time at Gulliver, Olivia has helped the Raiders to a pair of state championships. She is a two-time All-American in the 400 freestyle relay and was a state finalist in the 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 500 freestyle, and 100 breaststroke in each of the past two seasons. Voted team captain by her teammates this year, Olivia has won four state titles as a member of the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay teams, and is a two-time First Team All-Dade pick.
Olivia has consistently made the Academic Honor Roll and has been recognized as an AP Scholar. She will pursue a double major in English and history while competing on the swim team for Southern Methodist University.
