Alumni Give Back

Remarks from the Shah Family on Philanthropy

“Both of us are particularly thankful for the educational foundation we received as Gulliver students and for the many opportunities that it has afforded us. We consider it fundamental to our accomplishments and so, it is with gratitude that our family chose to support the school in this capacity.

Giving back was instilled in us by our parents at a young age. Throughout our father’s lifetime, he worked hard and made meaningful contributions to causes that he cared about and fueled his passion for educating children and his love of learning. It was in this spirit that our family honored his life and memory by making a lead gift to fund the new Shah Family Library Media Center.

It is inspiring to know that this gift will continue to enhance the educational experience and support the success of Gulliver students for generations to come including the experience of three members of our family’s next generation who are currently at the Academy Campus.

This inspiration keeps us energized and eager to give back. As fellow alums, we would encourage you to join us in supporting to our alma mater and investing in our future leaders. Every gift makes a difference.”

About the Shah Family Library Media Center

December 8, 2010, marked the day of the opening of the Shah Family Library Media Center on the Gulliver Preparatory Campus. This 12,000-square-foot facility serves as a place for reading, research, study, collaboration, production, and presentation. It provides a wide range of print, video, and digital academic resources for high school students. The first floor of the two-story complex encompasses a student union complete with a coffee bar that serves as a venue for larger lectures, meetings, and events while also providing upperclassmen with additional seating during lunch.

Elements of technology are visible throughout the facility. In addition to 24 computer stations, the area displays flat screen TVs, a stock ticker, and work tables equipped with power outlets and wireless Internet. The conference rooms with teaching and demonstration areas are complete with SMART board technology. Other portable technology resources are also available for circulation including kindle e-readers.

Gulliver extends its sincere appreciation to the many donors who made the vision of a library media center a reality. We are especially grateful to the Shah family, The Fairholme Foundation, and other lead donors, whose generous gifts were instrumental in making this possible.

Giving opportunities are currently available to support the ongoing technology needs of the Shah Family Library Media Center. As special recognition to donors who make a gift of $5,000 or more, an engraved, personalized plaque will be hung within the facility on the donor acknowledgement wall.
