Meet Our Leadership

The Gulliver Alumni Relations Department is dedicated to advancing the mission of Gulliver by offering programs and services designed to serve as a resource for alumni regardless of age or profession. The alumni relations department seeks to foster a spirit of loyalty and fraternity, and ultimately create and enhance lasting and mutually beneficial relationships between the school and its alumni.

Alumni Advisory Council

The Gulliver Alumni Advisory Council was established to provide the leadership for fostering a close connection between Gulliver and its alumni. Its primary focus is to partner with the Gulliver Alumni Relations office in its central mission of promoting and facilitating a lifelong relationship between Gulliver and its former students. The Alumni Advisory Council encourages and promotes strong and loyal alumni of Gulliver Schools.

The council carries out its purpose by meeting quarterly to advise on and discuss effective approaches to:

  • Developing ways to increase alumni engagement and strengthen the Raider network.
  • Assisting with alumni class reunions and pursuing conepts for other alumni events.
  • Strengthening attendance and support at alumni events.
  • Achieving commitment to the vitality of the Gulliver Alumni Association.
  • Increasing involvement with Gulliver Prep students and college-age alumni, through internships and career mentoring opportunities.


Nicole Baralt ‘12

Nicole Baralt is a senior at the University of Miami School of Business Administration, studying health sector management and policy. She is currently interning with the university’s UHealth health system to gain experience and learn more about the health care business. After graduating in May 2016, she hopes to continue her education and earn her MBA. At the University of Miami, she is a member of several organizations, including Delta Gamma Fraternity, Golden Key International Honor Society and HealthCanes.

Baralt graduated cum laude from Gulliver’s International Baccalaureate program in 2012. She wants to give back to the school that gave her so much and hopes to bring younger Gulliver alumni together in order to further strengthen Raider pride.


Julio Diaz-Jane ‘00

Julio attended Gulliver from 1996-2000. During his time there, he played football and lacrosse. Julio then attended Wingate University on a lacrosse scholarship from 2000-2005, majoring in sociology. After graduating, Julio returned to Miami and began his coaching career back at Gulliver as the head Middle School lacrosse coach and varsity assistant coach. In 2010 he was named middle school coach of the year by his peers, after posting a combined record of 40-3 and winning three consecutive middle school championships.

Currently, Julio is the kindergarten PE coach at Gulliver Academy and the assistant head coach of the varsity lacrosse program at Gulliver Prep, as well as an assistant coach of the sixth grade football team. He spends his summers coaching Miami Mahi, a travel club lacrosse team. In November of 2012, Julio married Heather Diaz; they had their first child, a son, in March of 2014. Having been part of the Gulliver family his whole life, Julio looks forward to many more years as a Gulliver Raider.


Faequa Khan ‘05

Faequa Khan is a licensed attorney in the State of Florida. She graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelors of Arts in political science and international studies. She then attended the University of Florida Levin College of Law. She now practices at a civil litigation firm that focuses on real estate. Faequa is active in the community; she volunteers with HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership), a program that focuses on high school students and their leadership potential. Faequa attended this program as a sophomore at Gulliver and has remained a part of the organization. She also dedicates time to Junior League of Miami.

Faequa believes in the gift of a Gulliver education and hopes to keep the Gulliver spirit alive in recent grads. She also hopes that her recent experiences will help Gulliver grads in their transition to life after Gulliver, and in turn create a better networking environment for all alumni.


Marisa Alvarez Martinez ‘90

Marisa Alvarez Martinez graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. She worked for several of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies before starting her own company. Her inspiration for founding Amerihealth Home Care Agency came after struggling to find trusted quality caregivers for her own grandmother after she fell ill.

Amerihealth Home Care Agency specializes in providing “VIP Nursing Concierge” services to discerning clients who expect the highest level of quality in private health care. Amerihealth allows seniors to continue living in their homes by providing compassionate and quality caregivers. Their home care professionals are background screened and handpicked based on their expertise and experience in their fields. They provide both-short term and long-term care as needed.

Marisa has three daughters: Abigail and twins Sabrina and Gabriella. All three girls are very musically talented just like their aunt, Ana Cristina Alvarez ‘03.


Monica Pardo ‘97

Monica Lauren Pardo was a three-time All-Dade Player of the Year in Softball and Gulliver's 1997 Student Athlete of the year. She earned a full Division I Athletic scholarship to play Softball at Florida International University, where she was a three-time All_TAAC and ALL-Sunbelt Conference Player and president of the Student Athlete Academic Center. She graduated cum laude in early childhood education.

Monica began her career at Gulliver Academy. While teaching Jr.K, she coached varsity volleyball, soccer and softball at the Prep. After teaching for 10 years she retired to have her son Mason Kelly Maduro. Today she is the Director of Tutti Bambini Events, which specializes in children's parties, bat/bar mitzvahs, weddings and corporate events. Her love, gratitude and admiration for the Krutulis family and Coach Schusterman can never be repaid but she will do all she can to give back what Gulliver afforded her. "I love that my son gets to be a Gulliver Lifer. We bleed blue!"


Dr. Carolina McCain ‘96

Dr. Carolina McCain graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in nutritional sciences. Focusing her passion for health care, she went on to attend optometry school at Nova Southeastern University. In 2005, she received her Doctorate of Optometry degree.

Carolina currently works at the Center For Excellence in Eye Care, an ophthalmology practice at Baptist Hospital in Miami. She performs comprehensive eye examinations, identifies refractive surgery candidates and fits simple and specialty contact lenses. Carolina is very proud to be a part of such a distinguished ophthalmic practice.

Recently, she married her Gulliver classmate, Ben McCain '96 and they live in Coconut Grove with their dog, Fanucci. As a member of the Gulliver Advisory Council, Carolina looks forward to meeting and connecting with Gulliver alumni.


Hugh Schmidt ‘87

Hugh Schmidt, a Gulliver lifer, attended The Johns Hopkins University and received bachelor degrees in both psychology and art history. He was very active in student activities while at Hopkins, becoming a key organizer of the university’s Annual Spring Fair. While still enrolled at Hopkins, he began work as a research assistant and discovered an affinity for and skill in information technology. This then led to a position as a technical liaison officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

After eight years in the Northeast, Hugh returned to Miami. He is now with the University of Miami working in decision support services as a business analyst.

Hugh and his partner Ed Hill ‘83 are both patrons of the arts. They enjoy keeping in touch with the Gulliver community and maintain many of the friendships born out of their Gulliver experiences.
